Wing Commander David de Figueiredo
Squadron Leader David de Figueiredo (Later Wing Commander SC --Relinquished Commission in 1989)Class of 1962. Commissioned 1965 in the GD(P) branch of the IAF.
Saw action in East Pakistan and subsequently in the Western Sector in Sialkot (West Pakistan). He flew a total of 29 sorties during the war and was Mentioned in Despatches.
A few years later, whilst on a Republic Day fly past rehearsal over Delhi the left aileron of his Hunter aircraft malfunctioned. Instead of ejecting he landed his aircraft safely. For this act of gallantry in peace time Flight Lieutenant David de Figueiredo was awarded the Shaurya Chakra.David is the Pioneer of Micro light flying in India
